Agencies housing rookie actors are heaving a big sigh over how idols are taking over every aspect of the entertainment industry.
These days, dramas and movies have been favoring idols-turned-actors over rookie actors, and consequently, there have been less and less opportunities for them to gain experience, leaving many out of work.
Take, for example, After School’s UEE and her starring role in KBS‘s ‘Ojakgyo Brothers‘, or B2ST‘s Kikwang on MBC‘s ‘I’m a Flower, Too‘. Cable channels are also following suit, with T-ara‘s Eunjung in JTBC‘s ‘Queen Insoo‘ and Big Bang‘s Daesung in MBN‘s ‘What’s Up‘.
More recently, ‘Dream High 2‘ seems to host an all-idol cast, with 2AM‘s Jinwoon, SISTAR‘s Hyorin, and T-ara‘s Jiyeon in the main line-up.
Global news provider, BBC World News, recently conducted an interview in English with 2NE1‘s leader CL.
The news anchor began by talking about 2NE1′s achievement in scoring the ‘MTV Iggy Best New Band In the World‘ award, before they went on to discuss the global impact and potential of K-Pop. Viewers were quite amazed at how the Korean native responded smoothly in English with little hesitation.
At one point in the interview, the BBC asked, “Talking about K-Pop, how big of a future do you think it will have on the global entertainment industry?“, to which the idol answered, “Well, I think it’s just the start and I hope it gets bigger and bigger, but I don’t know if we want to categorize ourselves into one thing as 2NE1.”

2PM’s Nichkhun will now be standing shoulder-to-shoulder with famous celebrities from all over the world — or at least, his wax doppelganger will.
On December 16th, representatives of JYP Entertainment revealed, “The wax figure of 2PM’s Nichkhun has been on display at the Madame Tussauds in Bangkok since November 29th.”
Madame Tussards is known as a popular tourist attraction with bevy of star-studded wax figures, such as Beyonce, Angelina Jolie, Brad Pitt, Obama, and George Clooney. The wax figures are so detailed that each cost about $150,000 USD to produce.
Nichkhun received the honor of being the second Hallyu star to be included in the exhibit; the first was actor Bae Yong Joon, whose wax figure is on display in Hong Kong. Nichkhun visited Bangkok on December 7th to participate in his wax figure production and was joined by hundreds of fans waiting to see the progress.
