On the heels of Se7en‘s triumphant return last night, YG Entertainment is back updating their YG-Life blog with the first concept photo for “Fantastic Baby” one of seven new tracks from Big Bang‘s upcoming album titled ‘Alive‘!
Recently, idol group TEEN TOP won their very first #1 on a music program with their latest single, “Going Crazy“. For TEEN TOP, who debuted in July of 2010 with their first single ‘Clap‘, the achievement took them exactly 564 days after their debut. This begs the question, how long does it take for idols to reach #1?
On February 4th, an online community posted a topic titled, ‘The time it takes for idols to reach #1 after their debut is...?’
According to the post, the idols who took the shortest time to reach #1 were:
- CN BLUE: 15 days after their debut with “I Am a Loner“
- miss A: 22 days after their debut with “Bad Girl Good Girl“
- 2NE1: 40 days after their debut with “Fire“
- F.T. Island: 55 days after their debut with “Lovesick“
Pledis Entertainment‘s first boy group, NU’EST, have finally opened an official Facebook page!
The seven boys of talented hip-hop group Block B made their return on the February 4th edition of MBC‘s Music Core with a performance of “Nanrina” from their second mini-album titled ‘Welcome to the Block‘. Fans would normally be happy about this but many Block B fans were angered over their perceived mistreatment of the boys.
Block B opened the show on Music Core, and some fans took this as an insult because Block B is a hot group making their return and usually the opening of the show is reserved for lesser known artists. Additionally, fans didn’t like the fact that the important dance routine from the beginning of “Nanrina” was cut out. After the broadcast was over, many netizens immediately took to online message boards and utilized SNS to share their angry thoughts.
Netizens commented, “I was so surprised that they cut out the most important dance part. I was also really upset that they put Block B first over the lesser known artists,” and “The cameramen didn’t even properly capture the members performance.”
Block B has showed power and compelling choreography through “Nanrina”. Member Zico also had a huge influence by producing 5 of the 6 tracks on their new mini album.
YG Entertainment CEO and ‘K-Pop Star’ judge, Yang Hyun Suk, shed tears during the February 4th broadcast of the program. While he’s previously stated that “emotions should not interfere with the decisions made in the show,” Yang found that he couldn’t stop tears from brimming as he observed the passion of the contestants.
The emotional response stems from YG Entertainment’s early years. Yang founded the company in hopes of scouting talented star-hopefuls who would help the K-Pop industry to advance and prosper. This same motive allowed him to become one of three judges for SBS‘s audition program.
Yet Yang’s method of looking for “quality over quantity” has caused him much grief. Yang stated that he was at first skeptical about debuting Big Bang, as there were much talk on whether or not the group would survive in the idol industry. As he watched over the contestants on ‘K-Pop Star’, Yang said that he felt the same about SuPearls, a group assembled by several contestants on the show.
“At first, I was worried for the SuPearls members,” says Yang, “I thought their skills were not polished enough to guide them through the competition and that they would not be able to develop their skills in such a short time.”
Big Bang and B2ST member Jang Hyun Seung‘s friendship has touched the hearts of many netizens.
Jang Hyun Seung tweeted on the 5th, “Truly thankful ungahdeul.. I’m so energized! Go! BEAUTIFUL SHOW..!”, and he revealed the photo above. (Ungahdeul: It’s a cute way of saying hyung in a plural form. It’s a slang btw.)
The photo shows a flower arrangement that Big Bang members have sent to congratulate B2ST’s concert. The messages are directed to Jang Hyun Seung, whom the Big Bang members have personal relationships with and the messages read, ‘Jang! Hyun! Seung! Jjang!’, ‘Big Bang Ungahdeul’, and ‘Our dongseng hwaiting crazy cheek’. The messages clearly show their brotherly love and it’s heartwarming to see that their friendship is still strong. (The last message could have been ‘Crazy Clown’, depending on what Big Bang tried to say).
Big Bang members and Jang Hyun Seung were all trainees in YG before either B2ST or Big Bang debuted. Jang Hyun Seung was eliminated in the final round of selection, but he later debuted triumphantly as a member of B2ST.
After 4 months of no activities, GD conducted an interview with High Cut. Although it was an interview that lasted for about 20 minutes only, when asked skeptical questions, he still answered them positively. His describes this “blank” period as “having deep contemplation” and “having a good time”. And during this period, GD is growing up fast.
Q1: It has been a while. What are you busy with these days?
GD: I’ve been busy preparing for the new album so I don’t have time for other things. I spend most of my time in the studio and seldom go out.
Q2: I see that you have new tattoos on your fingers. Did you get them during your rest period?
GD: No, these are actually not real tattoos. I just got them yesterday to prepare for the cover of the new album. In fact, I’m not sure whether I’ll get real tattoos again in the future. I want to, but people asked me not, so I just got these.
Q3: Because of everything that happened, you suddenly had a “blank” period. Did you use this time for self-reflection?
GD: I haven’t had a rest ever since I debuted. Although it isn’t my original intention, I was able to look back during this rest period. I know it doesn’t sound nice that I was only able to reflect because something bad happened. However, if you look at it from another perspective, it was a really meaningful period for me since I had a lot of time to reflect on myself. It was just like having some good time with myself.
