SNSD, KARA and TVXQ have been confirmed for this year’s NHK‘s “Kohaku Uta Gassen“, Japan’s biggest year-end music event.
Sankei Sports and other local newspapers reported that SNSD and KARA will join the list of attendees for the first time, and that TVXQ will be attending for the group’s third time in a row.
Sankei Sports reported, “It was already big news that Korean stars Jang Geuk Suk, Supernova, 2PM and SHINee would be performing at the event, [so it’s exciting that] SNSD, KARA and TVXQ have been confirmed as well.”
The Kohaku Uta Gassen will be holding its 62nd event this year on December 31st. The three Korean groups will be joining a veritable line-up of singers, who will then be divided into teams of two (Red and White), to compete in a singing battle in front of a panel of judges.

At a 2011 MAMA press conference that took place at the Singapore Sands Expo and Convention Center on the 29th, Koda Kumi remarked, “I worked with TVXQ in the past and continue to maintain a close relationship. I have also spent a lot of time with 2NE1′s Minzy, and I plan on going to their next performance in Japan“.
“Today at the MAMA, I will put on a performance that fits in with Korean culture“, she continued.
170 reporters from Japan as well as Hong Kong, Malaysia and Cambodia were at this particular press conference, as well as Reuters and the Korean press to gather as much news as possible.
TVXQ and KARA have been selected as winners in the Japan Record Awards for Best Works.
On November 19, the Japan Composers’ Association, in charge of the Awards, announced the list of the winners and nominees of the Awards. On the list were TVXQ’s “Why? (Keep Your Head Down)” and KARA’s “Go Go Summer.”
Ten songs that have been selected as Best Works are nominees for the Grand Prize of the Year. Among these ten nominees are Japanese girl group AKB48, Kana Nishino, AAA and more.
2NE1 has been nominated for the Best New Artist. 2NE1 will also vie for the Best New Artist on the day of the event along with other nominee miu0214MIU, Super Girls, Fairies and more.
All eyes and ears are focused on the ‘2011 Mnet Asian Music Awards (MAMA)’ that is scheduled to take place at the Indoor Stadium in Singapore on the 29th.
More than 2,240,000 votes came in this year through MAMA’s official homepage (www.2011mama.com), which is more than 10 times the number of votes that came in last year.
19% of the votes were from Korean fans, 11.2% of voters were Thai, 10.8% were Chinese, 8.6% were Japanese, and 2.4% of the votes came from Singapore. In total, more than 80% of all the votes were from oversea fans, which is 13% more compared to last year.
The competition is fierce for best male group dance performance, with Super Junior seizing 35.1% of all votes with “Mr. Simple“, and TVXQ earning 34.9% of all votes with “Why“.
Hanteo, one of the top album sales monitoring charts in Korea, has released their ’2011 Singer Award’ rankings.
Super Junior clinched 1st place with an overwhelming lead over all the other groups this year (~322,000 copies sold). Second place went to Big Bang (~217,000), while TVXQ has seized the 3rd spot (~201,000). They were followed by Kim Hyun Joong (~200,000) and JYJ (~158,000) for 4th and 5th places, respectively.
As expected, idols dominated album sales this year due to their large, dedicated fan bases. In addition, the top 5 are all male idols, with Kim Hyun Joong being the only male solo artist out of the five.
This chart is scheduled to be updated until the end of this year. However, with less than two months left in the year, it’s not likely that the rankings will change (with the exception of TVXQ and Kim Hyun Joong who are currently neck-and-neck).

“Yunho asked all the seniors to watch over me, and I got a lot of strength from it. He’s a senior who knows loyalty.” Before his debut with AA, Woosang worked as a choreography director for groups like Shinhwa and TVXQ.
